Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for Aquatic Personal Training?

See the front desk or fitness desk and tell them which package you would like to purchase. Specify that you want Aquatic Personal Training. Once you have paid and are in the system, you will be contacted by the trainer to arrange a convenient time to begin your sessions.

What kind of equipment do you have available?

We have noodles, water dumbells, water belts, resistance gloves, resistance arm boxers, fins, kickboards, pull buoys, and our pvc pool access wheelchair.

How old do my chlidren need to be for me to leave them in the pool?

Children under the age of eight must have a parent/guardian in the water and within arm’s reach at all times. Children under the age of eight must be accompanied by a parent/guardian while using the locker rooms.

There are no children allowed in the pool during water aerobics, unless partaking in a scheduled swim lesson or swimming laps.

Can I swim laps while classes are taking place in the pool?

Yes, we keep one lap lane open all day, every day.

How deep is the pool?

The deepest section of the pool is 5 ft. The most shallow section is 3ft 3in.

What is the temperature of the water in the pool?

We keep the pool at a comfortable 84-86 degrees fahrenheit.

Which aquatic classes are right for me as a senior, beginner , or advanced member?

Seniors: Senior Water Fitness, Advanced Senior Water Fitness, Arthritis Walking
Beginner-Advanced Members
Water Fitness, High Intensity, Deep Water, Shallow/Deep Water Cardio, Water Running, Aqua Interval, Interval Water Mix, Hydro Happy Hour

How do I learn to use the machines in the fitness center?

 

We offer our members a free intro to machines and on top of this a free 30 minute personal training session as a welcome to our center and we want to share our passion for your health and wellness. Make sure to call, stop by or click here to schedule these appointments.

 

How long before I see results and changes in my body from exercising?

Another very important component of fitness is the type of fuel our body runs on. I like to think of it like this.... my car would not go on empty or on junk fuel.... think of your body in the same manner...Good exercise and fuel into the body= results in health and wellness and your personal fitness goals.

How do I tone my body?

Cardio in the fitness center (treadmills,ellipticals, cycles, adaptive motion trainers, steppers (upstairs) group cycle classes, interval and circuit classes,snazzy senior classes, aqua classes, & upstairs on our track- 10 times around =1mile

 

Which group fitness classes shall I attend as a senior, beginner, (or advanced) participant?

Seniors and Beginners: Snazzy senior, Rep Reebok (Fridays @10:30) Gentle Yoga and Stretch w/ Dr. Dan
Advanced Members: will surely get their "work out fix" in participating in Skills n Drills, Power Yoga, Crazy 45, Zumba & Rep Reebok
All Levels: Cycling

 

How do I find out about new activities being offered?

Please check our website at www.jcccolumbia.org or refer to the Jewish News that is sent and or pick up flyers on your visits that are at the front desk.

Can I use my membership at other JCCs?

While each center is independent we are all part of the JCCA and JCC's further than 50 miles from us will honor your card, generally up to a week, and sometimes longer. They will call to verify that your membership is in good standing.

If I join under a promotional fee what happens to my rate in the future?

Your rate is protected for 12 months. You will not have to pay the initiation fee upon renewal, yet your fee does increase to the current years rate.

What are the allowable reasons one can be released from their contract?

1. Financial
2. Moving out of town
3. Military deployment
4. Health problems

If I have to cancel my membership, what do I have to do, and when do I have to do it?

Your membership is for a 12 month period. You need to give 30 days notice on a form provided by the Center for your cancelation to be processed in a timely fashion by our membership director.
